EDID-EDITOR(1) User Commands EDID-EDITOR(1)

NAME

edid-editor - inspect and edit EDID data of displays

SYNOPSIS

edid-editor [option...] [file]

DESCRIPTION

EDID Editor inspects and edits EDID, the data a display sends to describe itself: its name, size, timings, refresh ranges, color and HDR support, and audio formats. It reads the EDID base block, CTA-861 extensions and DisplayID 1.x and 2.x blocks.

A file given opens at start. Files ending in .hex or .txt are read as hexadecimal text, in the layouts printed by edid-decode(1), xrandr --verbose or Export Hex; other files are read as binary EDID. Open from Display reads the EDID of a connected display from /sys/class/drm; the display itself is never written to.

An opened EDID starts on an overview of the display, which follows unsaved edits. The sidebar lists the blocks and their groups, and the fields of the selected group are shown with their plain names, units and descriptions. Detailed timings open in a visual editor, where typing a refresh rate sets the pixel clock. CTA-861 and DisplayID data blocks can be added, duplicated, moved and deleted, two EDIDs can be compared field by field, and Save recomputes the checksums.

edid-editor-cli(1) does the same from a terminal.
